About us ★★★
La casa de las Estrellas has been created by founder and president Liala Miliardi with the help of many volunteers and supporters. Liala has been taking care for animals since she was a child. Since the start of this project in 2020, animal welfare has become her main focus in life, and she has been devoting all her time and resources to the well-being of her rescuees ever since.
La casa de las Estrellas is an independent association, registered with number 25592 (G1/S1/25592-21/L) in the Canary Islands Government registry. We are acting with no governmental support and with limited sources of income coming from donations, events, and second hand sales at markets, online and through our second hand shop in Arrecife.
We are dedicated to the protection, accommodation, care, and, if possible, re-homing of animals in need on Lanzarote and the surrounding islands, regardless of their species. The organization works with a rotating team of volunteers, consisting of external persons who temporarily participate in the project as part of an intercultural exchange arranged through platforms such as Workaway and Worldpackers, and steady team members based in Lanzarote. The sanctuary currently houses more than 200 animals, including small animals such as dogs, cats, rodents, hedgehogs, and birds, as well as larger species such as donkeys, goats, and sheep.
Our goal is to help where no one else can or will, and we are often the last or only opportunity for the animals we are taking care of. While following this goal, we collaborate with other animal welfare organizations, government agencies, and individuals. We believe that everyone can contribute to making the world a better place and that together we can achieve more. We collaborate with anyone who wants to join this mission.
